The IAM Membership at Menzies Aviation

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

IAMAW Local 2413 is pleased the Company and your Union have recently concluded a 3-year Collective Agreement which covers all Menzies workers employed as Ramp Agents, Bagroom Agents, Tow Agents, Lav & Water Agents, Grooming Agents, Passenger Service Agents and Lead Agents.

Furthermore, Local 2413 is glad your Bargaining Committee won its equal pay/equal treatment fight in ensuring workers would not be paid differently because of the airline they are servicing. Your Bargaining Team has significantly raised the floor of wages for many at Menzies. This will surely force other YYZ employers to follow suit or risk losing their employees and airline contracts.

We wish to welcome the workers who have been servicing the Sunwing contract into the IAM Family. Local 2413 will begin initiating training programs for Union Stewards and Health & Safety Committee Members that will provide the necessary foundation for good worker representation.

Workers who have been servicing Sunwing will need to complete an IAMAW registration/application form.

As per section 70 (1) of the Canada Labour Code; there shall be included in the collective agreement between the trade union and the employer of the employees a provision requiring the employer to deduct from the wages of each employee in the unit affected by the collective agreement, whether or not the employee is a member of the union, the amount of the regular union dues and to remit the amount to the trade union forthwith.”

As per the Code, you are required to pay union dues if you are covered under a collective agreement. Completing this Union registration/application form officially registers you as a member of the IAMAW and will allow you to access additional benefits such as discounted car and home insurance rates, discounts at Good Life Fitness, Park N Fly reduced rates, scholarship programs for members and their children, etc.

The Union dues amounts that will be deducted moving forward ($26.31 bi-weekly) are in accordance with Article IV Section 2 of the IAMAW Local 2413 bylaws. You can access these bylaws by clicking on the Local Lodge Forms Links section at www.iamaw2413.ca.

Also remember that Union dues are tax deductible and you get to claim them or write them off come income tax time. A completed application also allows you to be able to attend Union meetings, conferences, conventions, training sessions, run for union positions and participate in union elections, etc. Workers who do not complete a membership application will unfortunately be considered as dues paying non-members.

In Solidarity,

Local Lodge 2413
