Toronto Tragedy – Supporting our Customers and Communities

On behalf of your Great-West Life Toronto Group Customer office, it is with great sadness and a heavy heart, that we share the below and attached crisis resources. To help you, your plan members, family and friends cope with the tragic events that took place yesterday in our wonderful city, our EAP partner, Morneau Shepell  has provided the attached messaging, resources and tools that can be shared.

Hello,

We are shocked and saddened by the incident of violence that took place this afternoon in North York, Ontario. Coping with the shock or anxiety of a traumatic event can undermine healthy communities and social relationships at home and at work. We continue to monitor the situation so that we understand how best to support you and your employees.

As your Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provider, we would like to extend support to you and your employees during this difficult time as you try to understand the impact of the situation. Our goal is to ensure our clients, employees, families, and people in the community have somewhere to turn for support and receive help to cope with the current situation. Please reach out to your employees and provide resources that we have to help.

Please find the attached support resources and suggested employee communication below, in both French and English, that include strategies for coping with reactions to stress and anxiety. Crisis Support Line now open
Morneau Shepell has launched a national crisis support line that is available to anyone in need of emotional support. The crisis line can be reached at: 1.844.751.2133.

Please share this information with your employees, friends, and family. By calling the crisis line, individuals will receive crisis counselling support and/or referral to community resources. This crisis line resource is available to anyone and everyone, client or not.
